Chilled fruit smoothies – GF, DF & Ve

Healthy smoothie GF DF


It’s definitely not feeling like summer yet but frozen smoothies are still soo good all year round!

I love using some frozen fruit to keep it super chilled and give it a thicker texture but also adding some fresh fruit (which also makes it more gentle on the blender!). I find bananas tastiest when they are green/yellow but once they start to get freckles I don’t particularly like the smell or taste so once they start getting towards this stage I either use them up to make pancakes. If they go beyond that or I’m not going to use them all up in pancakes I peel them and store them in the freezer ready for a smoothie! To save some money too you can often buy lots of very ripe bananas cheap at the supermarket and put them in the freezer as soon as you get home! Make sure you remove the skins before freezing though!


For this smoothie (which made 2 small portions) I used:

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • A handful of fresh blueberries
  • A handful of strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon of maca powder
  • 1 dessert spoon of chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Around 1/2 cup of coconut milk*
  • plus, coconut flakes to top (optional)


If you’d like a thinner consistency you could add more milk or even juice! I personally like to keep them as thick as the blender can manage. I also like to add gluten-free oats if I’d like it to be a little more filling.

*not tinned – the milk carton kind!
