As soon as the ad popped up on my twitter feed and I couldn’t wait to find the closest supermarket I could find this dairy-free ice cream. I was a little disappointed that out of the three flavours released only one was gluten-free, something I forgot about amongst the excitement of finding out about Ben & Jerry’s dairy-free ice cream. With an option of gluten and dairy free Ben and Jerry’s though, I’m definitely not complaining! I headed to the largest Tesco closest to me full of excitement to find that they sold the two gluten containing flavours, but not chunky monkey. The price (£5.50 for a 500ml tub) also shocked me a little, Ben & Jerry’s are best known for their taste rather than affordability but it did feel like a lot for a small treat. I took this as a sign and decided against buying any for the meantime until a last minute shopping trip took me close by another large Tesco. I wandered up and down the frozen isles unable to see any free from area signs until I found the ice cream section and the new line of vegan ice cream. Without too much thought I grabbed a tub and headed for the tills.
I was unsure what to expect from this ice-cream as I obviously knew it didn’t contain dairy and some free from substitutes don’t taste the best to say the least… However, being Ben & Jerry’s this would usually indicate good things inside! They didn’t disappoint with their vegan range, it tasted rich and creamy without the banana flavouring overpowering too much. The chocolate chips tasted just as creamy without obvious signs that they were dairy free.
I would definitely buy this again for the taste but most likely as a special treat due to the high price and it isn’t one that I have seen on sale so far, like the other flavours they may introduce special offers every so often. Here’s the link to find the closest stockist to you along with more information on their other flavours in the vegan range.
Have you tried their vegan range yet?
